Took Amtrak back home. The train stopped for two hours for the completion of the US borders inspection, which was much shorter. I suppose that Amtrak has built-in delays for the border inspection.
Then the train came to a halt and continued to ride very slowly. The conductors said that we were stuck behind a freight train. Arrived to Buffalo with a two-hour delay. The rest if the trip smooth. We arrived to NY Penn station with a two hour delay. We eventually took the 11:49pm train to Summit. We arrived after midnight. Dorit and the kids stayed in the train station while I walked briskly home to bring the car. Dorit encountered suspicious people in the train station, so she and the kids waited outside until I arrived with the car.
Amtrak had no sense of time and no urgency to provide good service. It did not compare favorably with Japan Rail.
